Inukai, Tsuyoshi

 

Born Apr. 20, 1855; died May 15, 1932. Japanese political leader.

Beginning in the 1890’s, Inukai held leading positions in bourgeois-landowner parties—Simpoto (Progressive Party), Rikken Kokuminto (Constitutional National Party), and others. In 1929 he became the leader of the Seiyukai Party. Inukai was prime minister from December 1931 until May 1932. He was killed by a group of fascist “young officers” during a putsch on May 15, 1932.
