Jacopo Francesco Riccati
Riccati, Jacopo Francesco
Born May 28, 1676, in Venice; died Apr. 15, 1754, in Treviso. Italian mathematician.
Riccati studied at Padua and from 1747 lived in Venice. His most important works dealt with the integral calculus and differential equations. He investigated the integrability of one type of first-order differential equation, which has since come to be called the Riccati equation, in terms of elementary functions. Riccati is also known for his engineering work. He headed the construction of river dams.
