One of the leaders of the Communist Party of Lesotho (CPL).
Kena is of peasant origin. He has been a member of the progressive party known as the African Congress of Basutoland since its founding in 1952. Since October 1962 he has been a member of the Central Committee of the CPL. From October 1964 to March 1967 he was a member of the party’s Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee. Since March 1967 he has been general secretary of the Central Committee. He was arrested after the party was banned in February 1970; since 1971 he has been under police surveillance.
