Iterativus

Iterativus

in biology, the capacity of certain tissues (for example, sympathetic-nerve plexuses and smooth muscles) to react to stimuli only when the stimuli follow one another with sufficient frequency. The explanation of iterativus is that each stimulus, while individually subliminal, increases the excitability of the tissue until the successive stimulation becomes supraliminal and produces excitation.
