Kamina (kämē`nä), city (1984 pop. 171,008), Haut-Lomami prov., S Congo (Kinshasa). It is an administrative and transportation center. A major military airfield is located there. Kamina was used by the Belgians as a center for interventionist actions in the early months of the Congo's independence (1960). It later served as a center for UN operations during the crisis caused by the secession (1960–63) of the former Katanga prov. |
