Karagin Gulf

 

a gulf of the Bering Sea, extending 117 km into the eastern coast of Kamchatka. It reaches depths of 30–60 m. Karagan Island is located in the central part of the gulf. The island is separated from the mainland by Litke Strait, which measures between 21 and 72 km wide. The shores are rocky and steep. Many rivers flow into the gulf. The tides are mixed; they vary as much as 2.4 m. The surface waters are frozen between December and June.
