iron-deficiency anaemia iron-deficiency anaemia ANAEMIA caused either by inadequate dietary intake of iron, poor absorption of iron or excessive loss of iron from bleeding. Most cases are due to iron losses in menstrual bleeding not being balanced by adequate intake. Often there are no symptoms, but the condition may cause tiredness, lack of energy, sore tongue, cracks at the corners of the mouth and brittle finger nails. Treatment with supplementary iron is effective. |
