Italian ryegrass is found in southern European USSR and in western Transcaucasia. It is a high-yield fodder grass, which is easily destroyed by frost. The most commonly cultivated variety is the annual Lolium multiflorum var. westerwoldicum, which is grown in many countries. In the USSR this variety is occasionally raised on the Black Sea Shore of the Caucasus, in the forest-steppe zone of the Ukraine, and in Byelorussia. Italian ryegrass
