a cold current in the northeasternPacific Ocean. It begins in the Bering Sea and moves southwardalong the shores of the Kamchatka Peninsula, where it becomesthe Kuril Current. The current is more than 300 km wide andflows at a speed of up to 2 km/hr. The temperature in Februarymeasures below 1°C; August, up to 10°C. Salinity is less than 32. 5 parts per thousand.
