Izod test Izod test[′ī‚zäd ‚test] (metallurgy) An impact test in which a falling pendulum strikes a fixed, usually notched specimen with 120 foot-pounds (163 joules) of energy at a velocity of 11.5 feet (3.5 meters) per second; the height of the pendulum swing after striking is a measure of the energy absorbed and thus indicates impact strength. |
