Izborniki Sviatoslava
collections dating from 1073 and 1076, the oldest Kievan Rus’ collections and the oldest extant written texts from ancient Rus’. The first collection was compiled in the ninth century for Tsar Simeon of Bulgaria and then recopied in 1073 for Prince Sviatoslav Iaroslavich. In addition to ecclesiastical works, it contains essays on grammar, logic, and poetics, as well as parables and riddles. The collection of 1076, compiled for the same prince, is composed essentially of homilies, some of Russian origin.
