释义 | Kelly, Howard AtwoodKelly, Howard Atwood(1858–1943) gynecologist, surgeon; born in Camden, N.J. After taking his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania (1882), he made several visits to Europe to learn about the more advanced gynecological methods. He founded the Kensington Hospital for Women in Philadelphia. He went to Baltimore in 1889 to be gynecologist-in-chief at the new Johns Hopkins Hospital, then also became a professor of gynecology at Johns Hopkins Medical School (1893–1919), making Baltimore one of America's premier gynecology centers. He developed several new surgical techniques and diagnostic procedures, was one of the first American doctors to use radium to treat cancer, and wrote or edited several books on medical subjects. |
