释义 | Jones, William RichardJones, William Richard(1839–89) engineer; born in Scranton, Pa. As a youth he worked in iron foundaries and other trades, then went off and served with distinction in the Civil War. After the war, he went on to become one of Andrew Carnegie's most expert and trusted steel mill superintendents, both because of his knowledge of steel production and his ability to manage the men. He introduced many innovations to the industry, such as the Jones mixer and armor-plated hoses. |
