Jones, E. Lester

Jones, E. (Ernest) Lester

(1876–1929) geodesist; born in East Orange, N.J. After working in various businesses, he joined the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, where he introduced aerial photography to mapmaking. He served as a lieutenant colonel in World War I (1917–19), and founded the American Legion (1919). He surveyed the Alaska-Canada boundary for the International Boundary Commission (1921).
