Ixtacihuatl

 

(Aztec “white woman”), dormant volcano in the southern Mexican highland southeast of Mexico City. Ix-tacihuatl has a maximum elevation of 5,286 m; it is composed mainly of andesite. The volcano is in the form of a crest with three peaks, covered with snow year-round. It is connected by a commissure with the volcano Popocatépetl.
