Iraqw

 

(also Mbulu), a people in Tanzania, living to the southeast of Lake Eyasi. The Goroa, Alawa, and Burungi peoples are related to the Iraqw. The Iraqw population is approximately 300,000 persons (1967, estimate). They speak the Iraqw language. Traditional tribal beliefs and cults are retained among the Iraqw. Their chief occupation is farming, combined with cattle raising.
