Kaoko Veld
Kaoko Veld
a plateau in Namibia (southern Africa), between the Cunene and Ugab rivers. Average elevation, 1, 300–1, 800 m.
The Kaoko Veld descends in stages in the west toward the Namib Desert and in the east, toward the Kalahari. The Kaoko Veld is composed of Proterozoic and Lower Paleozoic sedimentary rock, in the south overlaid by lavas of the Karroo System. Very rugged flat-topped massifs predominate. The climate is tropical and semidesert. Xerophytic turf-grasses are the dominant vegetation, and there is brush in the valleys.
