A term used by military pilots after to indicate a low-fuel state. The aircraft has just sufficient fuel to return to base and land as well as fuel reserve for diversion to the designated diversionary airfield. This call is preceded by “bingo,” which indicates that aircraft involved in combat can continue to engage only for a short period of time and should try and disengage or discontinue any other exercise they are carrying out. The next call after “joker” is “thirsty,” which means the fuel state is such that an immediate landing should be carried out and there is no reserve available for a diversion.
