a city, the center of Aiaguz Raion, Semipalatinsk Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Situated on the Aiaguz River, it is a station on the Semipalatinsk-Alma-Ata line. Population in 1968, 37,800. Industry includes the processing of agricultural raw material (a meat combine, a creamery, and a wool-spinning factory), transport servicing (an auto repair plant and a locomotive and car depot), and a reinforced-concrete plant. Aiaguz was formed in 1931 in connection with railroad construction; it became a city in 1939.

a river in Semipalatinsk and Taldy-Kurgan ob-lasts, Kazakh SSR. Length, 492 km; basin area, 15,700 sq km. The river has its source on the north slopes of the Tar-bagatai Range and flows through semidesert. During high water it drains into Lake Balkhash. The river is fed mainly by snow. In the summer its waters become salty. It is used for irrigation. The city of Aiaguz is located on the river.
