Kaliningrad Seaport
(Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport), a major Soviet port on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea.
The geographical location of the Kaliningrad seaport favors year-round navigation. The seaport is part of the Baltic Maritime Steamship Line. Hundreds of seagoing vessels are loaded and unloaded at the docks of the port with cargoes of industrial goods, foodstuffs, grain, metals, machinery, and timber. The port is also a major base of the fishing fleet and has a maritime fishing port, at which the Iurii Dolgorukii Whaling Fleet is based.
The Kaliningrad seaport has an important role in international commercial relations. It dispatches and receives the exports and imports of the USSR and many countries of the world.
