Jeffrey, Richard (Carl)

(1926– ) philosopher, logician; born in Boston, Mass. After earning a Princeton doctorate in philosophy (1958), he taught engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1959–60) and philosophy at Stanford (1960–64), City College of New York (1964–67), and the University of Pennsylvania (1967–74), then became a professor at Princeton. His specialties included decision and probability theory.
