Keski-Suomi
an administrative unit (lääni) in Finland; located in the northwestern part of the Seenplatten (Lake Plateau). It was formed in 1960. Area, 18,300 sq km. Population, 238,000 (1971). The administrative center is the city of Jyväs-kylá. Keski-Suomi has sawmilling, paper-and-pulp, metalworking, and machine-building industries. There is dairy livestock raising, and grain and fodder crops are grown.
