Ingalls, John James

(1833–1900) U.S. senator; born in Middleton, Mass. Settling in Kansas territory in 1858, he was among the framers of the Kansas state constitution and was elected to the U.S. Senate (Rep., Kans.; 1873–92). Renowned for his oratory, he was president pro tem of the Senate from 1889–91.
