Installed Capacity

 

the sum of the nominal power ratings of a single type of electric machine, such as generators, motors, or transformers, installed in an industrial enterprise, such as an electric power plant, or in some power facility, such as a substation. It is expressed in units of active power (watts) or apparent power (volt-amperes). The installed capacity of a power system is the total nominal active power of all the system’s station generators (the same definition is applicable to the installed capacity of all the electric power stations in a given country). The installed capacity of electric power stations in the USSR (1975) totals more than 220 gigawatts.
