interbody cage

(ĭn′tĕr-bŏd″ĕ) A hollow, tube-shaped device placed between adjacent vertebral bodies in spinal fusion surgeries to improve or enhance bony fusion (“arthrodesis”). The cage is filled with either a bone graft or with bone graft substitutes.
