Institute of Integrated Transportation Problems (IKTP)
a research institute that works on problems of planning and integrated development for the unified transportation system of the USSR and problems of interaction among different types of transportation. It was set up in Moscow in 1955 and is subordinated to the State Planning Committee of the USSR.
The institute’s chief functions are improving scientific planning for the development and operation of transportation, ensuring proportionality of the transportation sector in relation to other sectors of the national economy and proportionality in the development of particular types of transportation within the country’s unified transportation system, and forecasting the development of the unified transportation system and of different types of transportation. There is graduate study at the institute, which also conducts graduate courses by correspondence. The institute has published monographs and collections of articles since 1956 on the integrated development of transportation. Since 1966 it has published the journal Trudy (Proceedings).
