apolipoprotein D

ap·o·lip·o·pro·tein D

[MIM*107740] an apolipoprotein found in HDL. It forms a complex with LCAT and appears to be involved in the transport of bilin.

APOD

A gene on chromosome 3q26.2-qter that encodes apolipoprotein D, a protein which is part of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and forms a macromolecular complex with lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCTA). It is thought to play a role in the transport and binding of bilin, and may transport different ligands in different contexts. ApoD has a high degree of homology to retinol-binding protein and other members of the alpha-2 microglobulin protein superfamily of carrier proteins, or lipocalins.
