apodize apodize (ap′ŏ-dīz″) [ ¹an- + podo- + -ize] To alter a surface by removing its irregularities, smoothing out curves, bumps, or shocks. Some implanted intraocular lenses are apodized to make them bend light continuously. Lenses that are not apodized have sharp margins between their near, intermediate, and far focal points. |
