[in′tərn·əl ′int·ə‚rəpt] (computer science) A signal for attention sent to a computer's central processing unit by another component of the computer.

internal interrupt

An interrupt that is caused by processing, for example, a request for input or output or an arithmetic overflow error. Contrast with external interrupt.
