Location:300 miles northwest of Anchorage in the central Yukon River Valley.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, primitive campsites.
Activities:Camping, kayaking, river floating, fishing, hiking, hunting.
Special Features:A float trip on the Innoko River offers excellent opportunities to view wildlife. Sport hunting for moose and black bear is popular, and fishing for northern pike is excellent.
Habitats: Two separate sections totaling 3.85 million acres. Half the refuge is made up of black spruce muskeg, wet meadows, and sedge or horsetail marshes with lakes and ponds. The other half is marked by hills of less than 1,000 feet.
Access: Primary means of access is by privately-owned aircraft, commercial guiding and outfitting services, and commercial air taxi operators. Not accessible by car; and, due to the refuge's remote and isolated location, access by watercraft is usually not practical.
Wild life: Canada geese, pintail, wigeon, shoveler, scaup, scoters, and red-necked grebes. Also provides habitat for salmon, Canada lynx, bear, moose, and wolf.
