information highway a national or international (‘super'highway) network which links up businesses and homes with information service providers (cable television, video telephones, interactive shopping etc.). Each user has a ‘connection box’ which links them via a cable to all kinds of services. In the case of cable television, for example, a customer connected to the highway could select a film from a large ‘menu’ and then receive it down the wire a few minutes later.
