Industrial Buildings and Structures, Institute of

(full name, Central Scientific Research and Experimental Design Institute of Industrial Buildings and Structures), an institute founded in 1961 and located in Moscow. The institute is under the direction of the Gosstroi SSSR (USSR State Committee for Construction). Through study and correlation of Soviet and foreign findings in the planning and construction of industrial buildings and structures of industrial enterprises, the institute introduces improvements into the master plans of industrial plants and industrial shops. It designs industrial buildings and structures, supporting and enclosing members that can be used as standard elements, and systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. The institute trains scientific specialists through resident and correspondence graduate study and publishes collections of instruction manuals and research papers.
