Hemicryptophytes
Hemicryptophytes
plants whose renewal buds remain at ground level during the time of year unfavorable to vegetation. There the buds can be protected by the glumes and, in the winter, by dead leaves and the snow cover. Hemicryptophytes are one of the basic groups of living plant forms. Many herbaceous plants of the middle latitudes, such as buttercups (the tall and creeping buttercup), bugles, and dandelions are among the hemicryptophytes.
