Iaila
Iaila
the main ridge in the Crimean mountain system, with elevations to 1,545 m at Mount Roman-Kosh. The Iaila has steep southern and gentle northern slopes. Plateau-like surfaces predominate in the west, including the Ai-Petri Iaila, Ialta Iaila, Nikita Iaila, and Babugan-Iaila. The east has isolated massifs, including Chatyrdag, Demerdzhi-Iaila, and Karabi-Iaila, with elevations to 700 m. The ridge is composed mainly of limestones. The slopes have mountain-forest landscapes, mediterranean in the south, and the peaks have karst landscapes, some bare and some half-covered with turf.
The word iaila is also the common name for summer mountain pastures in the Crimea.
