Hoxie, Vinnie (b. Ream)

(1847–1914) sculptor; born in Madison, Wis. She studied at Christian College, Columbia, Mo., lived in Washington, D.C., and, the first woman sculptor to be commissioned by the U.S. government, she created a marble statue of Lincoln for the rotunda in Washington, D.C. (1866–71).
