[′grau̇nd pə‚zish·ən ′in·də‚kād·ər] (navigation) An airborne computing mechanism that provides a continuous indication of position through data derived from instruments which give heading, airspeed, elapsed time, and drift.

ground-position indicator (GPI)

An instrument that determines and displays automatically the DR (dead reckoning) position of an aircraft. It gets its data from an ASI (air speed indicator) and a compass.
