Hamburg Rules
Hamburg RulesRules established by the United Nations governing the rights and obligations that carriers, shippers and consignees have with respect to each other when transporting goods by sea. The Rules were intended to mitigate the negative impacts previous rules had on developing countries. The Hamburg Rules are formally called the United Nations Convention on the Carriage of Goods by Sea. They were adopted in 1978 and came into effect in 1992. See also: UNCITRAL. |
