Architecture, Museum of

 

(full name, A. V. Shchusev Scientific Research Museum of Architecture), under the USSR State Construction Committee in Moscow. It was formed through the merger in 1964 of the Museum of Architecture of the Academy of Construction and Architecture of the USSR (founded in 1934) and the A. V. Shchusev Museum of Russian Architecture (founded in 1945). The museum has a unique collection of materials on the history of Russian and Soviet architecture (architects’ drafts, sketches, and drawings and architectural measurements), a collection of engravings and lithographs, a scientific photo library on architecture that is the largest in the USSR, and works of monumental sculpture. It is located in the former Talyzin mansion (1787, rebuilt in 1816) on Kalinin Boulevard and in the Donskoi Monastery.
