idiot lightA warning or caution light in the cockpit, in lieu of an instrument, which shows the functioning or malfunction of a certain system. Idiot lights may be provided in lieu of ammeters, the engine oil pressure gauge, etc. In these instances, they will indicate that the generator is not charging and the oil pressure is low, respectively. Also called a nondiscrete indicator. The term, however, is rarely used.idiot light
