Groot, Albert Willem de
Born Jan. 13, 1892, in Groningen; died 1963. Dutch philologist.
Groot’s specialty was general linguistics. He was a professor at the universities of Groningen (from 1919). Amsterdam (from 1921), California and Vancouver (from 1951), Washington (1952), and Utrecht (1956). He produced important works in structural linguistics and poetics.
