HalleyHalleyHalley(until 1977, Halley Bay), a British scientific station at the coast of Coats Land, Western Antarctica; situated on the surface of the Brunt Ice Shelf. Halley, which began operating on Jan. 16, 1956, has a wintertime staff of ten to 38 persons. Meteorological, geophysical, and glaciological observations are made at the station, and medical and biological research is conducted.
