(hē'lē-ŭm thār'ă-pē) The use of a helium-gas mixture (usually helium and oxygen) in the management of obstruction of the airways; the density of helium is much lower than that of either air or oxygen; as a result, the gaseous mixture will move past an airway obstruction more easily.
