a genus of plants of the family Ranunculaceae. (The plants are sometimes included in the genus Ranunculus.) The perennial low herbs have creeping shoots and radical rosettes of round or elliptic leaves. There are one to three yellow flowers at the tip of the stem. The six or seven species grow mainly in the temperate belt of Asia and North America.

There are two species in the USSR. H. salsuginosa is found in Siberia, the Far East, and Middle Asia. H. ruthenica is distributed in Southern Siberia. Both species, especially H. salsuginosa, are characteristic of wet and swampy solonchak meadows and solonchak soils.
