Iceball Method

A method for treating lesions of the uterine cervix, in which special probes previously frozen with compressed refrigerant gases (N2O, which achieves -89°C, or CO2, which achieves -68º) are placed on the cervix for 2-3 minutes, to freeze a lesion and then excise it
Pros Reduced postoperative pain, infection, discharge and better hemostasis
Cons Freezing introduces histologic artifact, making the iceball method controversial for treating dysplasia and carcinoma. The techniue may also increase the risk of HIV transmission
