Industry is concentrated in Tours, mainly machine building, chemical production, printing, and food processing. Eyeglasses are manufactured in Amboise, and an atomic power plant is located in Chinon. Agriculture includes wine growing and vegetable and fruit cultivation. On the plateaus, wheat, forage crops, and potatoes are grown. Livestock is also raised.
