HeLa culture HeLa culture A vigorously growing tissue culture cell line, established more than half a century ago and apparently immortal, that is used in laboratories all over the world for research and diagnostic purposes. The original cells occurred in a cervix cancer in a woman from whose name (Henrietta Lack) the term was derived. Artificial cell cultures of cancer cells achieve immortality by virtue of the enzyme TELOMERASE. |
