Grierson Oasis

Grierson Oasis

 

an oasis on Budd Coast in Antarctica, between 66° 14’ and 66° 30’ S lat. and between 110° 29’ and 110° 40’ F long. With adjacent islands, Grierson Oasis has an area of about 100 sq km. Its terrain ranges from hills to low mountains. D. Grierson, an aviator of the British whaling fleet, discovered it in 1947. The USA constructed the scientific station Wilkes on the oasis in 1957 and gave it to Australia in 1959.
