H habilis was short, but had a less protruding face and a higher, rounder and larger brain cavity (±650 cc) than Australopithecus (±450 cc). H habilis was a tool-maker—from whence the translation of the name, “handyman”—and was the earliest known Homo until the discovery of H gautengensis in 2010.Homo habilis
