Ideomotor Act

the appearance of the neural impulses that make for a given movement in response to the thought of movement.

An ideomotor act is not always distinctly expressed and may lead only to barely noticeable movements or to tension in the muscles in question, which are recorded by means of electromyography. The ideomotor act is used to demonstrate muscular “mind reading” and to help in psychological diagnosis. In principle, it would be possible to create mechanical control devices that would receive commands from humans in the form of the myograms of ideomotor acts (records of muscle movements).
