Gregory, W. K. (William King)

(1876–1970) paleontologist, ichthyologist; born in New York City. Educated at Columbia University (A.B., A.M., Ph.D.), he assisted Henry Fairfield Osborn (1899–1913) before joining the staff of the American Museum of Natural History (1911–44), where he became curator of ichthyology and comparative anatomy. Gregory specialized in anatomy and the development of teeth in fish and mammals; among his hundreds of publications are The Orders of Mammals (1910) and The Origin and Evolution of Human Dentition (1920–22).
